Olympics 2012

 

In order to develop an appreciation for an important world wide event students will be studying many aspects of the Olympic games.  Students will demonstrate their knowledge of this event by creating and participating in a cultural fair.  


Why:

  • To broaden students understanding of the world around them.

  • To gain an understanding of different countries and cultures.

  • To gain an appreciation of the perseverance and determination it takes to become an Olympic athlete.  

  • A exploration of nonfiction materials and ways to gather information.

  • To continue to practice the importance of critique and creating beautiful work.

Essential Question:

  • What is perseverance and determination?

  • How can we appreciate world cultures?

Stages:

  • Students will learn about the ancient Olympic games.

  • Students will choose a country to study in depth.

  • Students will research and record information in a journal.

  • Students will work together to create a final product to represent the area of expertise they have chosen.  

  • Group will share their work at a cultural fair.
